The Role of Geodesy and Geomatics in a Recovering Oil & Gas Industry

Last year’s downturn in the price of oil has had a significant impact on the oil and gas industry. In this challenging business environment, many companies have had to deal with reduced budgets, cancelled projects, and staff reductions. With the over-supply of oil, the industry has come to accept that oil prices will remain low for a long period of time. You often hear the catch phrase “lower for longer”.
As a result of the downturn, many companies have had to lower costs and “do more with less” in order to survive in this low price environment. This has driven many companies to become more innovative and creative in an effort to cut costs and increase technical efficiency.
How has the downturn in the market spurned you to become more innovative and creative with respect to Geodesy and Geomatics? Has the lowering of costs introduced geodetic integrity risks? How has the role of Geodesy and Geomatics changed (positive or negative) in a recovering oil and gas industry?
Therefore, I would like to invite those who have experiences in these topics to share your knowledge and expertise with our members and guests.
