"Championed by our Education Chair, Ashok Wadwani, APSG presented basic and applied geodesy to the GIS certification class of 18 students.  Ashok reports that the class was a mixture of mature and experienced, and young high school graduates.  However, they had one common goal; to improve their knowledge of mapping sciences and learn about the job prospects. Thanks to Michael Barnes for his expert knowledge and engaging presentation manner, the professor and students now have a better understanding of the role of geodesy in mapmaking, and in particular GIS.  We hope to recruit a few new APSG student members from this effort.  The presentation is available at Lone Star College (April 2012)
